Article summary
Survey logic controls how questions or blocks appear based on participant responses. At least two blocks are required to use survey logic. Logic is applied by linking answers in one block to the visibility of another block. To set up logic:
- Open the logic menu (arrow icon)
- Select a block and a question
- Define rules (e.g. show or hide a block based on an answer)
Multiple rules can be created to customise the survey flow. Previewing the survey allows testing of logic pathways before going live.
Add logic to your survey
To use survey logic, you need at least two blocks.
Once you have multiple blocks, you can control how subsequent blocks appear based on the answer to a question in the previous block.
To illustrate, see a sample survey below, where there are three blocks (A, B & C), and Question 1 in Block A can be answered with either "Yes" or "No".
Let's create a simple example of survey logic so that if the participant answered "Yes" to Question 1 in Block A, then they will be able to view questions in Block B. Otherwise, if they answered "No" to Question 1, they will not see the questions in Block B, moving straight to Block C. To do this:
- Click on the logic arrows symbol on the left side of the survey creation menu:
- Click Start now.
- We will select Block A and Question 1.
- We will set the logic so that if the answer is Yes, then Show Block B.
Alternatively, if the answer to Question 1 is "Yes", and you want the participant to only see Block B, then the logic will be Hide Block C.
- Click Save.
You can continue to add more rules if needed.
- Assess the logic by previewing the survey.
You can customise how participants view your survey questions in many ways. Try different survey logic by varying question or block designs and preview the survey to ensure it meets your preferences.
